march 2005
This has been a very busy month for Edward. He started out working on sitting, and now he's crawling everywhere.
Teeth and Hair
Eddie's top two teeth have come in. The top right one is just peeking out, but the left one is definitely in. Hopefully now he won't drool quite so much.
He had a haircut again this month, but this time it was at a real live salon. Well, Supercuts, but as far as he knew it was Vidal Sassoon. He sat on my lap and tried to sit still while the girl tried to cut his hair. Both were somewhat successful. It's not the best haircut I've ever seen, but it's OK. Maybe next time I'll do the cut myself again.
Development
We have a crawler. He started out the month rocking back and forth. He would lunge himself forward until the first time he lunged himself right into his toy fishbowl. After that, it was lots of reaching and rolling. By Easter he was dragging himself with his arms. Now he's crawling properly. And he's fast.
He's also great with rolling. Unfortunately, he likes to do this mostly while on the changing table. We've taken to giving him a toy (or a little cardboard box, which is one of his favorite things) to keep him from diving off the changing table
He's also getting better at finger feeding. If we put O's or little cereal puffs on his high chair, he'll pick them up and eat them. At first, he was good at picking them up, but not so good about actually getting things in his mouth. He'd drop the O, or it would slide down into the palm of his hand and he wouldn't be able to get it. Now he eats O's like a pro. He also eats lots of vegetables (squash is his favorite), fruit, even meat and yogurt (the YoBaby, which is the brand of yogurt, is ridiculously good. He shares with Mommy and Daddy sometimes).
Lastly, his vocal skills are continuing to improve. If you say "aa" to him, he'll join in. He mostly says "tatata", but he tries to mimic us when we say "Dada" or "Eddie". "Mama" is nowhere on the map yet. Oh well.
Medically Speaking
We started off the month by seeing Dr. Hirani a little more often than we would have wanted. His poop was rather copious and extremely stinky. I went in to feed him in the morning and the poor guy had pooped everywhere. After changing diaper, jammies and sheet, and opening the window to freshen the air, I called the doctor. She said he was probably fine, and to give him Pedialyte to keep him hydrated. He hated the Pedialyte, but stayed well hydrated regardless.
Since he's still got all the eczema going on, we have been giving him a steroid cream to keep it from getting too bad. When we saw Dr. Hirani for the poop, she told us to not give him the steroid cream on his face for more than a few days at a time. So we stopped for a few days, until it got so bad that he looked like he had been punched in both eyes. He was all puffed up and rashy. We took him back to the doctor and all the nurses kept peeking in on him, and asking us what we had given him to cause such a reaction. We protested that we hadn't given him anything new. He looked like a little old Vietnamese man, poor guy. The doctors looked at him and said it was just eczema. They gave us a different cream for his face, and things are under control now. Whew.
