january 2005

January was a busy month for Eddie. Check out new pictures here.

Solid Food

Edward started solid food this month. We hooked up the highchair, mixed up some rice cereal, and gave it a go. He wasn't crazy about it. Then, the highchair broke. So we had to wait a week for the replacement parts to arrive, and then we tried again.

Finally, we switched to oatmeal. He liked it a lot better, and now, by the end of the month, he's much more comfortable with it. He eats it up eagerly and opens his mouth, asking for more. Next month, we start vegetables!

Development

Eddie's grown a lot this month, developmentally. He started off the month by putting everything in his mouth. He also learned how to do a raspberry noise, although he sooned stopped, which was good for medicine time (imagine liquid medicine + raspberry. Not good). Other things he's put in his mouth include mommy's chin, the dog's leg, and, for the first time, his toes! It's cute as all heck, but it makes diaper changing a little challenging.

He's getting stronger, too. Sitting up is getting easier. He usually needs something to balance against, like a toy or daddy, before he slowly slides to the ground. He also is very good at rolling over. At first, he just rolled over in bed - we'd come to get him in the morning and he'd be on his tummy. Finally, we got to see him rolling when we played with him on the floor. Now he rolls to reach a toy, although he still just rolls in one direction. No barrel rolling across the floor-yet.

And finally, on the 27th, a tooth peeked out! It's the bottom right front, and the one next to it isn't far behind.

Medically Speaking

Eddie was an itchy baby this month. We'd seen the pediatrician for some pretty bad eczema all over his body, and she gave us some medicine that cleared most of it up. He still had some stubborn spots on his cheeks, though, so we had to go back to the doctor. She gave us some hard-core stuff that cleared it up very well. Now we just moisturize him like crazy, and use the medicine when the eczema returns. It's pretty stubborn, partly because the propranolol can cause dry skin.

His SVT is going fine. No new developments this month. We just keep giving him medicine 3 times a day.
